Potato and Mackerel Bake recipe

This bake is creamy and delicious, perfect for supper. Serve it with a green salad.


  • 750g new potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 250g peppered mackerel fillets
  • 250ml double cream
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil

Method of Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C.

  2. Place the potatoes into a pan of cold water and bring to the boil. Cook for 15 minutes and then drain them and allow them to cool slightly. Slice them into thin slices.

  3. Finely slice the onion.

  4. Cook the potatoes and the onion in a little oil for five minutes or until golden and beginning to colour.

  5. Season the mixture well and then smooth half of it into a baking dish. Flake the mackerel and lay it over the potato, then add the rest of the potato and onion.

  6. Pour the cream over the mixture and then cover the dish with foil and cook for thirty minutes. Uncover the potatoes and then cook for a further twenty minutes.

Try serving this with some sautéed leek for a sweet side dish. This bake will serve four people.
